At RGIT, a special department is responsible for providing assistance and support services to international as well as domestic students for an array of matters that include general welfare and their coping up with a new lifestyle. This department includes RGIT Australia's student welfare committee and a team of student support and welfare staff. The student welfare and counselling staff offers confidential support services and external referrals whenever necessary.

Confidentiality

The students feel comfortable speaking to all the members of the staff. The team's main goal at RGIT Australia is not just to make students comfortable, secure and healthy not only during their time at RGIT but also beyond. The students are encouraged to contact the RGIT Australia team with any kinds of concerns, feedback and complaints. The team takes privacy very seriously and is committed to protecting the students' privacy. This includes the personal, health, financial and any other confidential information, which is necessary for RGIT Australia to carry out its functions, including supporting students in times of crisis.

Moving to Melbourne

Moving to an entirely new country than your home is not just an exciting but also a life-changing experience. Melbourne has been named the world's most liveable city for four years in a row by the Economist Intelligence Unit's liveability survey of 140 cities. Melbourne scored the perfect score for healthcare, education and infrastructure. The orientation section helps all the students with information on living and studying in Australia.

Medical Services & Healthcare

One of the essential visa requirement for international students is maintaining private health. RGIT Australia can also organise overseas student health cover (OSHC) for international students. The health fund that would be used would be Allianz. The team can transfer the existing health cover Allianz if prefered by the students. The benefits of Allianz include

-24/7 phone support

-Interpreters

-Health System Guidance

-iPhone app to find near buy doctor using GPS

The local doctors in Australia are known as "GPs", or general medical practitioners. The GPs see patients for basic health conditions and also provide referrals to specialists for more complex health issues.

Study Centre

The international students can take advantage of the Study Melbourne Student Centre (SMSC). It is a one-stop-shop for all the international students' queries and concerns. The Victorian Government runs it. It is located at 599 Bourke Street in Melbourne. The SMSC is a point of contact and referral where international students can access a range of information about health matters, general well being, legal services, accommodation, financial management and safety. SMSC also offers professional support and referrals to local services and community resources, crisis intervention, casework assessment and support in emergency situations.
